Kiblawan OFC: Stronger and better for six years

THE MEMBERS of the Kiblawan OFW Family Circle Association (KOFWCA) celebrated its 6th year anniversary last March 22, 2019 at the  Matas Gym, Poblacion, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. With this year’s theme: “OFW og Pamilya: Katilingban Kita ang Paglaum Ngadto sa Kabag-ohan og Kalambo-an” (OFW and Family: A Community of Hope for Genuine Change and Development), the event was participated by its members and other members of the newly-organiized OFW Family Circles in different barangays of the municipality.
Present during the celebration were Mayor Carl Jason Rama which was represented by his Executive Assistant Genevive Arcadio, Punong Barangay Cesar Poblacion, and Officer-in-Charge Carmelo Elaya representing OWWA XI Regional Director Petrona Bergado.
In his message, Punong Barangay Poblacion encouraged the members to have proper management on the money sent by their love ones who are working abroad, “The amount sent to you is a hard-earned money, so you need to give value on it”, he said. Genevive Arcadio, on the other hand, expressed her warm greetings to the organization and deliver the message of Mayor Rama. She said that the municipal government of Kiblawan will continue to support the programs and projects of the organization.      
For six (6) fruitful years, the organization has grown up and able to organize the OFWs and dependents from other barangays. From only one OFC in the municipality, the officers of KOFWFCA exerted effort in organizaing new OFW Family Circles. The newly-organized groups include the barangays of Cogon Bacaca, Manual, San Isidro, Kisulan, Sto. Niño, Panaglib, Bagong Negro, and Maragaa.
Hightlight of the celebration was the induction of the newly-elected officers of the eight (8) OFW Family Circles with Punong Barangay Cesar Poblacion as  the inducting officer. Other activities during the program were raffle of prizes, parlor games and videoke challenge.
An orientation on the various programs and services was likewise held to provide updates and other information to the members of the newly-organized OFCs. OWWA XI Family Welfare Officer Herman Sab presented the programs and services and addressed the queries and concerns after the orientation.
Meanwhile, OIC Elaya gave his inspirational message on behalf of Regional Director Petrona Bergado. He congratulated all the members of the OFC for being one of the OFW Family Circles in Davao del Sur with stable livelihood project and a consistent partner of OWWA in the delivery of its programs and services. He likewise extended  his gratitude to LGU Kiblawan for supporting the organization.

Presently, KOFWCA has a total of 437 active members. The group received a livelihood grant from the Department of Labor and Employment under the Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP). A total of P306,333.00 worth of materials and supplies was turned over to them last January 15, 2016. The project is operational up to the present providing additional income to its members.
Apart from this, KOFWFCA already has a total P500,000.00 capital and savings which they invested into different projects like micro-lending, cow and hog dispersal, and meat processing (tocino, chorizo, ham).
To address the various pressing needs of the OFWs in the municipality, OFC President Longinos Espina was appointed by LGU Kiblawan as the OFW Help Desk Coordinator. Likewise, they have strong linkage with other government agencies like DTI, DOLE and TESDA, non-government organizations, other LGUs and the academe. The officers are continuously helping the OFW families with welfare concerns by facilitating their needs and endorsed these to the OWWA regional office.
Being recognized as one of the important sectors in the locality, the organization is now included in the annual  budget of the LGU. As part of their social responsibility, the officers of KOFWFCA regularly conducted oplan “linis kapaligiran”, tree planting and growing activities. Likewise, they actively participated in the yearly “brigada eskwela” in different public schools in the municipalty.  (PR)
